HOW TO SET UP YOUR BPA-FREE PITCHER OF LIFE FOR INITIAL USE

Here’s how to set up a Pitcher of Life BPA-free water pitcher

1. Wash & Prepare Pitcher
● Hand wash the pitcher, lid, and reservoir with warm water and a mild detergent.
● Rinse everything well. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

2. Unpack & Prepare the Filter
● Remove the new filter from its packaging.
● Shake the filter for ~5 seconds before installing.

3. Install the Filter
● Take out the funnel reservoir from the pitcher.
● Screw the filter firmly onto the bottom of the funnel reservoir

4. Soak the Filter
● Let the filter soak in water for ~4 hours before filling the pitcher. (This primes the media and reduces initial air bubbles.)

5. Fill & Prime
● Place the reservoir (with filter attached) back into the pitcher.
● Fill the pitcher with cold tap water to about the 2-liter mark.
● Hold the filter down for a few seconds until bubbles stop — this helps remove air from the media.

6. Ready to Use
● After priming and filling, the pitcher is ready for use.
● Simply pour tap water into the top, let it filter through the media, and enjoy cleaner, alkaline water.

Tips
● Don’t use hot water — cold or room-temperature water works best.
● If water flows slowly at first, that’s normal as the filter fully wets.
● Filters will eventually need replacement per the included guidelines (1 – 2 people every ~2 months) (3 + people ~ every 1 month)

  • Blue number '1' inside a white circle

Run water through the filter 2–3 times

  • Blue number '2' on a white background

Discard the first 2–3 full pitchers

  • Blue circle with the number 3 inside

    Gently swirl water before discarding

  • Blue number '4' inside a circle

This removes trapped air + carbon dust

To prepare a new filter for your Borosilicate Glass pitcher

Follow these steps to ensure optimal performance

1. Rinse the Filter

  • Remove the new filter from its packaging.
  • Rinse the filter under cold water for about 2-3 minutes. This removes any loose particles or carbon dust.

2. Soak the Filter

  • Place the filter in a clean bowl or container of cold water.
  • Soak it for 10-15 minutes. This helps to activate the filtration media and prime the filter for use.

3. Insert the Filter into the Pitcher

  • After soaking, remove the filter from the water.
  • Insert the filter into the filter housing in the Pitcher of Life water pitcher, ensuring it's securely in place

4. Run Water through the Filter

  • Fill the pitcher with cold water and allow the water to pass through the filter into the reservoir.
  • Discard the first one or two batches of filtered water to remove any remaining particles or impurities from the new filter.

5. Ready for Use

  • Once the initial water has been discarded, your Pitcher of Life water pitcher is ready to provide fresh, alkaline water.

Make sure to replace the filter according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule, typically every 2 months for two people and once a month is 3 or more people

Frequently Asked Question

What is the capacity of the glass water filter Pitcher of Life?

The Borosilicate Glass Pitcher of Life has a 3.75 capacity and the holding tank (where the filtered,
alkalized water is held, holds 2.5 liters). I tested the prototype for 3 months before we went into production, and it worked fine. I always filled it up again after I poured several glasses of alkaline drinking water. We made some larger versions, but because it is the high quality Borosilicate Glass, the weight for my Wife was a little too much. We modified the final version, that we put into production, by making the glass handle larger, and adding a food-grade, stainless steel underside to the lid.

How many times should I rinse my new Pitcher of Life replacement filter before using?

For the Pitcher of Life® - all model – which features a six-layer filter including activated carbon – it’s important to rinse the filter thoroughly before first use to remove any carbon "fines" (black particles). These fines are harmless but can make the water look cloudy initially.

Recommended Rinse Process:

  1. Run water through the filter 2 to 3 times (i.e., fill and discard the first 2–3 full pitchers of filtered water).
  2. Swirl the water gently around in the pitcher each time before discarding, to help flush out trapped air and carbon dust.
  3. You’ll know it’s ready when the filtered water becomes clear and free of black specks.

After this rinse process, your filter is ready to alkalize, purify, and remineralize your tap or bottled water.

How do I maximize my filters lifespan?

Here's a Quick-Start Checklist and Tips to Maximize Your Pitcher of Life® Filter Lifespan so you can get the cleanest, most alkalizing water possible:

Quick-Start Checklist

Before First Use:

  1. Soak the filter in clean cold water for 15 minutes (optional but helps speed up priming).
  2. Assemble the filter into the pitcher securely.
  3. Run and discard 2–3 full pitchers of filtered water to flush out carbon fines.
  4. Check for clear water: if still cloudy, do one more rinse cycle.
  5. You're ready! Begin enjoying alkalized, mineral-rich water.

Tips to Maximize Filter Lifespan & Performance

  1. Track usage: Replace filter every 30-60 days or after 40 gallons (whichever comes first). Two people using = 60 days and 3 or more = 30 days
  2. Avoid hot water: Only use cold or room-temp tap water to prevent damaging the filter media.
  3. Use filtered water within 48 hours or store it in the fridge to maintain freshness.
  4. Clean the pitcher weekly: with mild soap and water (never the filter itself).
  5. Don’t let the filter dry out: If not in use for several days, keep it submerged in clean water.
  6. If flow slows down: try gently tapping the filter or re-soaking to release trapped air or sediment.

How do I maintain and clean my Pitcher of Life alkaline water pitcher?

Regularly change the filter every 2 months (or monthly for heavy use), clean the pitcher with HOCL or warm water and dish soap.

How does Pitcher of Life remove contaminants from water?

Pitcher of Life uses activated carbon and ion-exchange resin filters to remove chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, and other impurities while enhancing water alkalinity.

How do I know when to replace the filter in my Pitcher of Life pitcher?

Signs include reduced water flow, change in taste or odor, or after the recommended usage period. Pitcher of Life guides users to replace filters every 2 months for optimal performance.
